Lamka, January 27, 2012:
Singngat, a once vibrant sub-divisional headquarters in this southern district with its mosaic set up has embarked on a historic mission to regain its bustling past as it diaspora and existing residents collectively drafted a vision document dubbed Vision 2020 in a recently held Singngat Special Meet.
Unsettled over the state of affairs they witnessed during their home-coming, the diaspora in the form of Team Delhi, Team Shillong, Team Lamka, and Team Imphal have made a point that they leave the town not without an effort to restore its glorious past, the bustling town they knew of.
This eventually took the form of a vision, a vision with 2020 as the deadline.
The vision document which compares Singngat to a ghost town that is quiet, dark, desolate, empty, neglected and abandoned has plans of turning the chronic water scarcity to be a thing of the past while it made a detailed outline on the road map for resettlement.
It is also expected that by 2020 the often misspelt identities such as Singhat or Thinghat will then made way for its orginal name Singngat.
Upgradation of existing high schools into higher secondary schools, installation of septic and hygienic toilets for all households, fully black-topped with concrete pavement and foothpath, tele-communication without network problems, setting up of private and mission hospitals, augmentation of banking facilities, ensuring sustainable developments through assorted government projects are some of the visions envisage in the document.
It is said that the Vision Document shall provide guidance to the Government of Manipur, elected representatives, Village chief, Village Authority members, concerned Government officials Philanthropic organizations, civil society leaders and the public at large.
