Yet another NE girl gang raped in Delhi
Source: The Sangai Express / Ninglun Hanghal

New Delhi, November 25 2010: North East Support Centre & Helpline has strongly condemned the gang rape of a Mizo girl in South Delhi on Tuesday night and demanded that the Delhi Police arrest the culprits immediately.

Delhi Police must set up night patrolling at the risky zones immediately and provide a white paper on the action taken.

The NE Helpline Fact Finding Team has also taken stock of the situation.

DoNER Minister BK Handique met the victim today and he is set to meet Delhi police and Gurgaon police as well as the owner of the BPO where the victim works tomorrow.

The incident occurred when 30 year old Ms Sonia (name changed) from Mizoram along with her friend was dropped by the company vehicle at Motibagh, South Delhi at around 1 in the morning on November 23.She was kidnapped by four men at gun point while her friend managed to escape.

She was pushed inside the back of a vehicle and four men took turns to rape her and abandoned her at Mangolpuri.

The Office of North East Support Centre & Helpline was immediately informed at 1.30 am and instructions given to get help from police.

Though the police responded promptly and rushed to the spot, the culprits had already made their getaway.

Ms Sonia came to Delhi four years ago and is living with her sister in a rented room in Motibagh.

She was working in a BPO at Gurgaon.

Naturally traumatised and yet to get over the nightmare, the Mizoram Welfare Association, Delhi has extended moral support and extended trauma counselling.

A case of kidnapping and gang rape has been registered under Dhaula Kuan police station.

The area where the girl from Mizoram was raped has become some sort of a happy hunting ground for potential rapists with a similar incident happening way back in 2005 Dhaula Kuan.

The areas prone to attack on North East girls are Murnika, Mahipalpur, Moti Bagh, Mohamadpur, Nanakpuram, Friends Colony, North Delhi Campus, Nehru Basti, Gandhi Basti and Sikhanderpur in Gurgaon.

Madhu Chandra, spokesperson of North East Support Centre & Helpline has approached the newly appointed Delhi Police Commissioner Mr.B K Gupta, to take up the matter through his office and his office has directed North East Support Centre & Helpline to discuss the matter with Joint Secretary of Delhi South Block Police, Mr.Murli Patnaik tomorrow.

"Mr.Patnaik has assured to take up Sonia's case and ensure the culprits booked and punished as per the law and we are meeting him tomorrow with list of demands from Delhi police," says Madhu Chandra.
