PWD Surveyor of Works Ngangbam Manglemjao and his wife SO Ngangbam Shanti of IFCD who have been abducted by a UG group since February 18 have been freed at a place in Ukhrul district at about 5.30 pm today.
The abductors handed over the couple to a relative of Khundrakpam A/C MLA in front of media persons.
According to Manglemjao and Shanti, some armed persons posing as cadres of a UG group abducted them from Kangla Shangomshang on their way to office at about 10.30 am of February 18.They were then taken to Pukhao.
From Pukhao, the armed persons handed them to another group who took them along a hilly road and kept hostage in a house.
While in the custody of the UG group, they were never ill treated.
On being disclosed that he is a diabetic patient, the UG cadres provided Manglemjao medicines, the couple conveyed.
They also acknowledged the efforts of Khundrakpam A/C MLA to affect their release.
On the other hand, a protest sitting was staged at Lamlong Bazar demanding release of the couple earlier today.
