Many condemn Jiribam killings

The Centre for Research and Advocacy, Manipur (CRA) has vehemently condemned the inhumane and merciless killing of six Meitei women and children by armed Kuki militants in Jiribam.
Yumlembam Rani Devi (60), Telem Thoibi Devi (31) and her daughter Telem Thajamanbi (8), Laishram Heitonbi Devi (25), her son Laishram Chingkheinganba (2), and her youngest child, Laishram Langamba (8 months) were take hostage by Kuki militants from a relief camp in Borobekra, Jiribam district on November 11, 2024 .
In a release, CRA said that the kidnaping and inhumane killing of minor children and brutal rape & murder of women by Kuki militants constitutes a crime against humanity and violate humanitarian and human rights laws on protection of women and children.
CRA urged the Government of India to urgently institute an impartial investigation into the killing of six women and children by Kuki militants and punish all those involved in perpetuating the violence and crime against humanity against indigenous women & children in Manipur.
CRA also expressed concern over the inability of the Government of India and Manipur to protect the lives of the children and women in Manipur, despite heavy security deployment and militarization in the State since May 3, 2023."The cases of violence against women and children have increased during the ethnic tensions and armed conflict in Manipur despite heavy security deployment", it added.
CRA urged the State and Central Government to take urgent steps to protect indigenous women and children from all forms of violence, displacement and discrimination in accordance with the UN Convention on Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination and Violence against Women and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
"The Government of India should be held accountable for failing to contain the violence and to protect the lives of the indigenous women and children in Manipur.
The Government should take urgent steps to end the ongoing violence and restore peace and normalcy in Manipur", said CRA.
Meanwhile, All Around Upliftment Organisation (AROUND) organised a solemn event at Sagolband Tera Sapam Leirak today to mourn and pay homage to the innocent women & children who were killed by Kuki militants in Jiribam.
During the event, the gathering shared the grief & pain of the bereaved families and observed two minutes of silence to pray for the departed souls to rest in peace.
AROUND president Moirangthem Naokhamba called the cold blooded murder of six women & children was cowardly and every right thinking individual should condemn such acts of brutality and terrorism.
He also decried the failure of the Government and security forces to protect the hostages and demanded action against the perpetrators.
