In a "major counter-insurgency breakthrough," the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police have arrested a wanted PLA cadre who carries a bounty of Rs 4 lakh.
The apprehended cadre of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) has been identified as self-styled Captain Thiyam Boycha Singh alias Balin.
He is a key accused in the November 13, 2021 Churachandpur ambush case that resulted in the loss of Colonel Viplav Tripathi, his family members and other personnel.
He is wanted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and carries a Rs 4 lakh bounty, said the Assam Rifles.
He was arrested from Ushoipokpi in Thoubal district on August 22 during a targeted operation carried out following precise intelligence about his presence.
Initial questioning has exposed his involvement in PLA activities, including training and prolonged stay at a camp in Myanmar, procurement and transfer of war-like stores and linkages with other militant groups, said the AR .
The apprehended cadre has been handed over to Manipur Police at Lilong police station in Thoubal district for further legal process, added the AR .
