Imphal, April 23 2021: Not satisfied with the CBI's final report on the death of Ningthoujam Babysana Chanu, the Joint Action Committee formed in connection with the case has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, State Governor and the Director of Central Bureau of Investigation for a fresh probe into the case.

Notably, the CBI had submitted the final report in the Court Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West on April 1 and the JAC had then rejected the report as "incomplete" and demanded a fresh probe.

The CBI's final report had said that charge sheet could not be submitted against the accused persons in the case as no evidence emerged during investigation that the accused persons were part of a common intention to murder, or abetted suicide of Babysana Chanu or were cruel to her or had cheated any person.

The accused persons named in the case are Nongmaithem Jinnty (26), Kamei Ileen (54), Pheiroijam Robinson Singh alias Boicha (34), Pheiroijam (O) Longjam (N) Landhoni Devi (65) and Pheiroijam (N) Karam (O) Romita Devi (41) .

It may be recalled that 14-year-old N Babysana Chanu of Thangmeiband Meisnam Leikai was a Class VII student at the Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School at Canchipur.

She was found mysteriously hung to death inside a boarding in the school campus on July 18, 2019 .

At a press meet held at the residence of late Babysana, the JAC's convenor, Laishram Gyaneshori reiterated that the JAC can't accept the final report of the Special Crime Branch, CBI Kolkata as "it is incomplete" .

After the CBI submitted its final report, the JAC on April 7 had written to a DGP informing about the JAC's stand on the report and also requested him to confirm the blood groups of accused persons [in the case] including Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School founder Ph Landhoni, her son Robinson and daughter Romita.

The same written representation was also submitted to Chief Judicial Magistrate and Session Judge Imphal West, she said.

Denouncing the CBI's final report, the JAC had also written letters to the Governor, Chief Justice of Manipur High Court and Chief Minister N Biren on April 22.Above this, the JAC has also written to the Director CBI and also requested the Governor to send the same to the Prime Minister officially, she said.

When the Prime Minister's slogan is "Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao", the death of an innocent minor girl inside a school campus has not been solved and justice has not been delivered yet.

This is unacceptable, said Gyaneshori.

She also commented on the death of medical student (Sanaton Athokpam) at RIMS hostel and said the authorities concerned have not yet solved the case and this has become a controversy and a burning issue.

Only if the police were able to investigate the death of Babysana properly and award befitting punishment to those guilty, such unfortunate incidents against young students could have been avoided, she said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi should also talk about Babysana and many other students like her who have lost their lives on "Mann Ki Baat" and take up steps to deliver justice and avoid such cases from happening again, said Gyaneshori.
