Kakching, February 23 2025:
Former Minister and veteran Left leader Dr M Nara has pointed to political insincerity as a major obstacle in resolving the protracted crisis in Manipur.
Addressing the 54th Kakching local conference of Communist Party of India (CPI) today, Dr Nara continued that the crisis in Manipur has become a protracted and complex issue due to lack of genuine political commitment.
A sincere political will is needed to address the State's problems, he added.
The CPI doesn't welcome the imposition of President's Rule (PR) in Manipur as the party had suggested that the Government convene an all-party meeting to defuse the tense situation in Manipur and prevent a full-blown political crisis, Dr Nara maintained.
Saying that Manipur has become a lawless State lacking effective leadership, he added that the MLAs who were part of the Government must play a larger role to resolve the crisis.
He, meanwhile, said that CPI is committed to uphold human rights and egalitarian values.
CPI was established on December 26, 1925, he said and added that today's conference, held to strengthen the party, marks a significant milestone in its journey.
Later, the conference adopted a resolution to urge the Central Government to dissolve the State Assembly and hold a fresh election.
The conference also condemned the imposition of PR in the State.
