Plastic waste collection campaign covering 15 villages kicks off

Thoubal, June 22 2025: A campaign focused on collection of plastic wastes dumped by the public in inappropriate places was kicked off at Nongdambi River in Salungpham yesterday.

Aptly titled "Ereikai Khungang Dagi Housi, Mafam Chadana Hundoklamba Plastic Waste Sing Khomjillasi", the campaign will cover 15 villages under the jurisdiction of Arambai Tenggol Unit III .

Notably, the campaign is organised by Arambai Tenggol Unit III with Soibam Mangijao Meitei's family.

Additionally, AT members from Salungpham, Sapam, Tentha and Langathel sub-units under AT Unit III also took part in the environmental campaign.

According to Soibam Kishan, Organisation Commander, AT Unit III, the collected plastic bottles will be sent for recycling.

He highlighted the extent of environmental degradation in Manipur by pointing out the repeated cycle of floods and droughts which has posed difficulties for farmers in the State.

Even when planting tree saplings to mitigate the environmental crisis, people should take responsibility for the survival of the trees until they mature, he added.

Stating that the campaign will be carried out for 4/5 days, he sought the support and participation of the local villagers.
