Bishnupur, June 22 2024: Apunba Nupi Lup (ANUL) Bishnupur District President Lourembam Pramo highlighted the need of making a united stand against the atrocities meted out to Meiteis and the passive stance of the authorities concerned with regard to the conflict situation in the State over the past one year.

Pramo stated the above while speaking at the occasion of the 19th foundation day of Apunba Nupi Lup (ANUL) observation held today at Kiyamba Shanglen in Bishnupur district.

Expressing grave concern over the failure of the Central and State Government to resolve the ongoing crisis, she maintained that the authorities concerned have turned a blind eye to the plights of the innocent civilians who have been bearing the brunt of the ethnic crisis for more than a year.

It is really unfortunate that the Government has failed to take up appropriate measures to curb the violence which has caused extensive damage rendering thousands homeless and loss of many precious lives, she said.

She remarked that incompetency on the part of the Government and the security forces to protect the lives and properties of the people, the youths of the State have been compelled to be in the forefront to protect themselves and their people.

Pramo also raised the question why the Government has failed to quell the violence in Manipur despite the deployment of a large number of security forces.

In view of the above instances, she urged all to come together and take a collective stand for the well-being of the people of Manipur.

Pramo also appealed to the civil society organisations (CSOs) to give valuable suggestions and work in collaboration with the masses.

Delivering the keynote address, ANUL secretary Mongjam Anita stated that ANUL ever since its inception in June 22, 2005 has been taking key roles in significant issues of the State concerning the unity and integrity of the State, protection of the indigenous people, crime on women and other prominent issues in the society.

In the context of the prevailing ethnic crisis in the State, she remarked that the inability of the State Government to take up concrete measures to resolve the crisis has led to discontentment among the people.

In view of the recent development where measures are being taken up to carry out a crackdown upon the village defence volunteers, Anita said that the mothers should take a firm stand to protect their sons who have been making selfless and dedicated efforts for the cause of the motherland Manipur.

Speaking at the occasion, Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL) president Lourembam Nganbi said that the Government should take a neutral stand rather than taking sides.

She raised questions on the hidden motives of the Government upon the huge deployment of the Central Security forces in the State.

In connection with measures to maintain law and order in crisis-stricken Manipur, Lourembam Nganbi stressed that similar and just measures should be implemented in both the hills and the valley.

She also urged the Ministers and MLAs to exercise their duties and act accordingly for the welfare of their people rather than be on the backfoot for the fear of losing their power and authority considering the volatile situation and the plights of the people.

During the programme, the attendees paid floral tributes to the departed members of ANUL and observed two minute silence in their honour.

As a part of the programme, media persons and CSO members of the district were honoured with simple gifts acknowledging their remarkable contributions in the society.

Eminent women leaders namely Nupi Samaj president Thokchom Ramani; Tammi Chingmee president Yambem Momon; Nongpok Leingak Apunba Nupi Lup president Yumlembam Memma; Thoubal Ima president Sapam Bimola; Nongchup Imphal Palem Ima Apunba Lup secretary Soraisham Shanti; EECHAL president Tongbram Ibemcha; Ima Leimarel Apunba Lup Churachandpur president Angom Nayani and Kha Nongpok Apunba Lup Moreh secretary Lukram Binakumari among others also attended the foundation day observation.
