Four districts begin to reap fruits of development seminar

With most of the recommendations adopted during the development seminars organised jointly by Ministries of Home Affairs and DoNER in four districts of the State namely Bishnupur, Imphal East, Ukhrul and Senapati, being implemented, people have started reaping its benefits.
In the development seminars conducted during 2009 and 2010, and participated by Union Home Secretary GK Pillai himself, numerous recommendations were adopted for initiating development activities in various sectors including health, education, water supply, road transport, communication, agriculture, banking, etc and the Home Ministry has been keeping a close watch to ensure implementation of these recommendations.
According to an official source, in all 67 recommendations have been adopted in the development seminar conducted for Ukhrul district and implementation on most of these recommendations have not only been started but also completed for some.
Conducted in the month of October last year, the development seminar held at Ukhrul recommended opening up of a bank branch of the SBI in Ukhrul district.
Today, a bank branch of SBI has already come up at Somsai along with setting up of two ATM booths much to the convenience of the people.
In addition, 3-G service of the BSNL has been introduced giving a boost to the communication facility of the people.
On the other hand, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has approved the development of Jessami-Ukhrul-Yaingangpokpi road to a double-laned road even as MANIREDA has taken up rural electrification programme in remote villages of the district.
Consequent to the seminar and its recommendations, 20 doctors and 5 dental surgeons have been posted in Ukhrul district and construction work on the Mini Secretariat has been completed and inaugurated by the Union Home Ministry, the source said.
With regard to Imphal East district, in all 62 recommendations have been adopted, out of which Protected Area Permit has already been relaxed for one year and land identification for setting up an institute for Hotel Management and Tourism studies at Koirengei carried out.
In accordance to the recommendations adopted for development of three football fields, the Government has included the matter in its priority list for work implementation under NLCPR.
In the development seminar for Bishnupur conducted in August, 2009, in all 18 recommendations including utilisation of the water from Loktak lake and ensuring proper implementation of Loktak Lift Irrigation Project, have been adopted.
Among other recommendations, a Central team has already conducted a survey for setting up cold storage facilities with an eye on development in Horticulture sector in the district and preparation of report on the feasibility of the project is underway.
Following the recommendations adopted in the seminar, five more Medical Officers (MOs) and two Dental Surgeons have been posted afternoon Specialists doctors including two Gynaecologists, one Paediatrician, one Surgeon, one Anaesthetist, etc have already been giving posting in different parts of the district.
As for the Senapati district, SBI branches and ATM booths of UBI have already started functioning in Maram, Mao, Lairouching and Kangpokpi in accordance to the recommendations adopted during the seminar.
Moreover, as recommended, construction work on a godown of FCI at Mayangkhang has been started and an order for providing an Ambulance under NRHM issued already, the source disclosed.
Meanwhile, Union Home Secretary is expected to review the action taken report on the recommendations adopted in these development seminars during a meeting at New Delhi on May 30, the source added.
