Imphal, June 17 2024:
The row over recruitment of pre-primary teachers hasn't abated yet as volunteers of DESAM burnt the effigies of Education Minister Th Basantakumar, Education Commissioner H Gyanprakash and Education (S) Director L Nandakumar for two days in a row.
Today, the effigies of the Education Minister and the two other persons were burnt at Thoubal Keithel and Wabgai Lamkhai, Kakching.
Similar protests were taken out at Pangei Bazar and in front of Oriental College yesterday.
The protest was against the alleged irregularities in the recruitment of 1140 pre-primary teachers by the Education Department.
Speaking to the media by the sideline of the protest at Thoubal Keithel, Keisham Robindro, secretary general of DESAM Thoubal District Council, said that rewarding the wrong doers and arresting those who bring out the wrongs done have lately become the trait of the Government.
Saying that recruiting untrained teachers will be disastrous as it is education which will shape the future of any society, he urged the Education Minister, Education Commission and the Director of Education (S) to step down for allegedly failing to perform their duty.
The DESAM leader also called for transparency in all teacher selection processes.
He also urged the Government to release the three DESAM volunteers who were arrested recently.
