IMC launches UPIN nameplates

Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) has introduced nameplates for Unique Property Identification Number (UPIN) so as facilitate collection of property tax.
Launching the UPIN nameplates today, IMC Deputy Commissioner Th Sidhartha said that the nameplate contains a 17-digit number and a QR code.
The first digit of UPIN is district code, second and third digits are town or city code while the fourth and fifth digits are ward code, he said.
The sixth, seventh and eighth digits stand for Leikai, ninth digit indicates ownership while the remaining eight digits indicate property serial number, Sidhartha said.
Scanning the QR code by the public will reveal only the UPIN for security reasons but when officials scan the same QR code using a special application, all the details of the property owner would be displayed, he said.
MAHUD Director Ngangom Uttam said that the Property Tax Board has been working hard to collect property tax from all over Manipur.
But collection of property tax needs property ID for each and every citizen.
That is why, IMC is launching UPIN nameplate, he said.
He said that IMC which is facing severe resource constraints will get a huge relief if the initiative of collecting property tax can be implemented successfully.
Uttam then appealed to all the people to cooperate with officials when the latter come to attach the UPIN nameplates on houses.
The task of fixing UPIN nameplates would be done first in Imphal before the same initiative is taken to other districts, Uttam said.
IMC Mayor L Lokeshore, IMC Commissioner K Chandrakumar, IMC Deputy Commissioner Th Sidhartha and Smart City CEO Th Harikumar were also present at the event where UPIN nameplate was launched.
