RIMS celebrates 55 years of service

Imphal, September 14 2026: The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, celebrated its 55th foundation day at the Jubilee Hall of the hospital today.

Rajya Sabha MP A Sharda Devi, RIMS Imphal Director Professor G Sunil Kumar Sharma, senior faculty members, doctors, students, nursing and administrative staff of RIMS attended the event, held to commemorate the institute's "remarkable journey of 55 years of dedicated service, excellence in medical education, patient care, research and service to society" .

Speaking on the occasion, MP A Sharda Devi appreciated RIMS's "remarkable" development since its early days and its contribution to medical education and healthcare.

The MP said she will extend all possible assistance in efforts to upgrade RIMS Imphal to the status of AIIMS .

While informing that she had submitted a representation seeking upgradation of RIMS Imphal to AIIMS status to the Union Health Minister during her time as the State's BJP president in 2024, Sharda said she has recently spoken to the Minister on the issue.

During a meeting in person in June this year, Sharda said she urged Union Health Minister JP Nadda to consider upgrading the RIMS Hospital.

Sharda also stressed the need for respectful doctor-patient relationships and urged doctors and nurses to treat patients with kindness, sympathy and empathy.

She called for setting aside ego, maintaining emotional attachment, and upholding dedication, humility and professionalism.

Sharda released "Remedy", an annual magazine of RIMSSU and the Journal of the Medical Society.

Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma highlighted RIMS's 54 years of service, academic expansion, healthcare and research achievements.

Prizes were distributed to meritorious students for academic excellence.

Newly elected office bearers of the Medical Society were introduced, marking a smooth transition and reaffirming RIMS' commitment to education, healthcare, research and service.
