Imphal, May 14 2026:
Five prominent organisations have accused the Government of India (GoI) of using communal cards to suppress the people of Manipur.
The All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO), Poirei Leimarol, All Manipur Women Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA), Manipuri Students Federation (MSF), and Committee on Human Rights (COHR) held a press briefing today at the AMUCO office at Kwakeithel.
Speaking to the media, Sanjoy Sorokhaibam, convenor of the five organisations, claimed that the GoI has employed various tactics for decades to prevent Manipur from becoming a developed society.

However, since all previous measures to control the people of Manipur have failed, the Government is now resorting to the communal card, he claimed.
He alleged that the crisis engulfing Manipur is the result of the GoI's actions.
Killing people along communal lines and abducting them on the same basis is the most heinous form of crime, he said.
He said that peace will remain elusive in Manipur as long as the GoI and its proxy forces continue playing the communal card.
He urged the Government to stop the cycle of violence in Manipur.
