Muslim MLAs urged to be sincere

Imphal, April 14 2012: The Jamiatul Ulema, Manipur has urged Muslim MLAs elected to the 10th Manipur State Legislative Assembly to refrain from corruption and malpractices.

During a reception ceremony organised by the Jamiat for the three Muslim MLAs namely Md Fajur Rahim, Md Abdul Nasir and Md Amin Shah on the April 13 at Babupara Masjid, members of the Jamiat exhorted the Muslim representatives to refrain from all acts of corruption and malpractices as these are strictly against Islamic Laws.

The Jamiat president Moulana Sayeed Ahmed, who presided the event also highlighted role of the Jamiatul Ulema in the freedom struggle and in the functioning of the government as a highest Islamic body in the country.

Looking back at the history of India, Mufti Siraj Ahmed of the Darool Uloom, Lilong, mentioned how people brought about downfall to the Muslim rulers in the medieval period as a punishment of indulging in malpractices and corruption which are against Islam.

Reacting to the style of implementation of various schemes meant for the minorities, Moulana Umar Kashmi strongly condemned the act of corruption and malpractices by the State WAKF Board, Manipur in implementing Central-sponsored scheme for the Madrassah Modernisation in Manipur.

He also alleged that the WAKF Board indulges in such practices right from the lowest officers to the highest, in all activities including appointment of teachers for the Madrassahs, the matter of which must be treated as serious as it violates the Islamic Madrassa regulations.

Kashmi also rued that nothing can be expected from the present system of implementation of the scheme other than gradually demolishing the structure and system of the decades long running of Madrassa education in Manipur.

He further stated that the system is nothing but benefiting a few greedy individuals whose only concern is amassing personal wealth and cited 'no remarkable progress' of the scheme in the last few years to substantiate charges of insincerity on the part of the implementing agents/officials.

there are evidences of charging huge amounts even in giving offer forms of the teachers who are being appointed for the Madrassah Modernisation, the cleric claimed and also drew attention for the Muslim womenfolk who are supplementing family income by involving in various economic activities like their male counterparts.

Treating the suggestions for making a policy for the Muslim women who are working in the unorganised sector as an important matter, Md Fajur Rahim, who has been elected from Wabagai AC, affirmed he will accord top priority to the matter and discuss with the intellectuals for framing a policy so that the Muslim women can sustain involvement in various economic activities in a more prestigious, systematic, planned and organized.
