Doctors in Imphal demand justice for murdered Kolkata med student

In solidarity with a young doctor who was brutally raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College in West Bengal on August 9, hundreds of doctors and medical students in Manipur staged protest demonstrations today.
More than 300 students and faculty members of Shija Academy of Health Sciences, Langol staged a sit-in protest at the academy's campus.
The protesters held placards and raised slogans condemning the heinous crime in the strongest terms and demanded accountability and justice.
They called for a thorough investigation into the case and better safety measures on campuses.
At RIMS Imphal campus, the Resident Doctors' Association (RDA) in collaboration with the Teachers' And Medical Officers Association (TAMOA) and the RIMS Students' Union (RIMSSU) organised a peaceful protest demonstration denouncing the heinous crime.
The protesters later marched for justice towards the State Legislative Assembly.
The demonstration was conducted without affecting patient care in emergency services, the ICU, and elective OTs, ensuring essential medical services remain uninterrupted, said the RDA in a statement.
Notably, the 31-year-old trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata on August 9.The initial autopsy report revealed that she was raped and murdered.
Kolkata police have arrested an accused named Sanjoy Roy, who worked as a civic volunteer with the police.
"A female doctor being attacked and murdered in her workplace - an institution meant to heal and save lives - is beyond unacceptable.
If a hospital cannot guarantee the safety of its doctors, then where can they feel secure?" This incident raises serious concerns about the safety and security of healthcare professionals across the Nation, said the RDA RIMS.
It urged the authorities to take swift and decisive action to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure the safety of all healthcare workers.
