Patriots' Day observed at various districts of the State

Bpr, Tbl, Tpl, August 13 2017: To commemorate and pay respect to the freedom fighters and martyrs of the State who sacrificed their lives during the Anglo-Manipur war, the 126th Patriots' Day was observed at different districts today, where floral tributes and respect were paid to the photos of the Patriots .

In Bishnupur, the Patriots' Day was observed at mini secretariat, DC complex, Bishnupur where the Deputy Commissioner Bobby Waikhom graced the ceremony as chief guest .

Many DLOs of the district took part in the ceremony organised by district administration, Bishnupur .

After paying floral tribute to the photos of Tikendrajit and Thangal General, SI of Bishnupur police Y Motilal commanded a parade and paid salute at the photos .

Speaking at the event, the DC Bobby stated that the infamous Anglo-Manipur war which cost the lives of many people of the State should be remembered and added that the lack of knowledge about the war among the youth and the new generation should be prevented by including the stories in school syllabus and general knowledge books .

He further urged all present at the ceremony to act as a patriot and to enhance the origin, culture and tradition of the State .

Meanwhile, Kumbi College and Legal Aid Clinic, Kumbi observed Patriots' Day cum 2nd foundation day of the Legal Aid Clinic, Kumbi at the college .

The ceremony/ function was held under the directive of Bishnupur District Legal Service Authority and Manipur Legal Services Authority and attended by MLA of Kumbi AC S Bira Singh, BDLSA Chairman as well as District Session Judge , Bishnupur Ch Brajachand Singh, Family Court, Thoubal Judge Binny Ngangom as dignitaries among others .

Society for Disabled Person, Manipur along with students of Kumbi college presented many cultural activities including songs and dance .

A memoir on 'One year achievement of Legal Aid Clinic Kumbi College' was released during the function .

At Thoubal district, the day was observed by district administration, Thoubal at the counting hall of DC complex .

The observation of Patriots' Day was attended by Thoubal Zilla Parishad Adhyaksha Kh Surnalata Devi, Deputy Commissioner, Thoubal L Nabakishwar Singh, SP, Thoubal K Meghachandra Singh and Additional District Magistrate, Thoubal Ng Bhogendra Singh attended the observation as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively .

Government officials, district police officials and CSOs leaders also took part in the ceremony, reports our correspondent .

Meanwhile, Foundation for Healthy People, Wangjing- Lamding also observed Patriots' Day at Lamding multipurpose hall where former MLA of Khangabok AC Okram (o) Landhoni graced the ceremony as chief guest, Foundation for Healthy People Wangjing Lamding president Chingtham Iboyai as president and SDC, Kakching Longjam Ashakumar as guest of honour .

Floral tributes were paid to the photo of the State's freedom fighters Tikendrajit and Thagal General and the people who gathered at the complex remained silent for one minute to show respect to the departed souls .

In connection with the observation of Patriots' Day, an essay competition was held at Azad Higher Secondary School, Yairipok by Manipur Women Foundation and Legal Aid Clinic, Yairipok .

The essay competition was categorised into two categories and was conducted on the theme "Spirit of Nationalism in Manipur" .

Top Chingtha Gram Panchayat former Pradhan K Inaocha Devi, Andro police station OC A Khelendro, MWF advisor AK Narjit and social worker Y Tomba attended the observation as dignitaries .

The chief guest of the function, Pradhan K Inaocha Devi distributed gifts to the toppers of the competition and Advocate Md Zakir Hussain spoke to the students on POSCO & Child Marriage Prohibition Act during the ceremony .

Meetei Council, Moreh, All Community Development Organisation, Moreh, Kha Nongpok Apunba Nupi Lup, Nupi Khunai Chaokhat Lamjing Lup, Muslim Development Association, Minority Women Development Society and AMSU, Tengnouapl district jointly observed Patriots' Day at Ima Kondhong Lairembi, ward no 7, Tengnoupal district .

SP, Tengnoupal S Ibomcha, ADC, Moreh N Gojendro, SP CPF, Moreh WHK Luwang, MCM president Thoiba , ACODOM president RK Sanayaima, AMSU, Tengnoupal president Rocky attended the ceremony as dignitaries among others .

A poetry recital programme was also held as a part of the observation.
