Imphal, December 09: Reasserting its commitment to promote quality education in the State, the Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) has stated it would closely monitor admission procedures in private educational institutions from the ensuing academic session.

Reminding that corruption and pressure tactics during admission season in the recent past had been undermining admission exercises based on merit, MSF decried quota system allegedly entertained by some private schools as stumbling block in the pursuit towards an education system whose objective need to be on producing quality students.

Not only is quota system and corruption in the admission exercises an unhealthy trend but is directly denying meritorious and deserving candidates their right to education, expressed the student body.

Taking a dig at some unnamed State level student bodies whom it accused of being partisan and selfish in their approach under the cover of self-acclaimed protectors of students' rights, MSF pointed out that insincerity in their conduct could never usher an era of quality education.

Getting admission with dubious means or the deserving ones denied the same would only infuse a destructive mindset to the young students that corrupt practices is the only way to learning and reading, cautioned the MSF while urging school authorities to resist pressure tactics from any circle at all cost failing which MSF would take appropriate action against the guilty party.

While asking individuals and student organisations to desist from defiling admission norms parents' association concerned also drew flak from the MSF who alleged that important functionaries of the latter forget their responsibilities and hobnob with school authorities to ensure their own wards or of close relatives/friends find access to institutions of repute.

These self-proclaimed prestigious institutes should also ensure that prescribed admission rigours are honoured failing which making tall claims should cease immediately, said the MSF in a release.

Reminding all concerned that moulding a society in a proper manner rests entirely on grooming from the grass roots wherein there should be no room for corruption, MSF also warned that any institution whose conduct in admission are against acceptable norms would be shut down with effect from the end of the current academic session.

Under no circumstance would MSF tolerate sacrificing genuine and qualified candidates to accommodate a handful of children with questionable capability but belonging to parents/guardians commanding influences, the release maintained.

MSF also appealed to civil society organisations in general and student bodies in particular to contribute their mite towards realisation of the professed goal of quality education in the State instead of intervening in the admission procedure with the intention of ensuring their near and dear ones study at institutes of their choice.
