Imphal, September 09: A combined team of the State security forces shot dead a suspected UG at Ukhongshang Mamang Leikai 8 kms south east of Yairipok PS this afternoon at around 12.30, said sources.

Sources said that a combined team of Thoubal Dist police commandos and personnel of II IRB rushed to Ukhongshang Mamang Leikai on receiving specific information about the presence of some UGs in the area.

On reaching the area the combined team came across two /three persons moving in a suspicious manner.

On being asked to stop the youth fled and began firing towards the security forces.

Although taken by surprise the security personnel immediately retaliated and shot dead one of the youths.

The other youths however managed to escape taking advantage of the familiar terrain.

A hand grenade, four live rounds of 9 mm and one motorcycle (Freedom MN1M-1194) were recovered from the deceased youth.

The body of the unidentified youth has been deposited at RIMS morgue.

In another incident, personnel of Imphal East Dist Police arrested two KNF (Z) activists from Heirangoithong Khumanthem Leikai yesterday afternoon at around 3, said police.

The two arrested youth have been identified as Irom Sunil alias Dipak (20) s/o I Bobo Singh of Pungdongbam Makha Leikai and Salam Robinson alias Naingo alias Ingo (28) alias s/o Joy Singh of Uripok Khumanthem Leikai.

During preliminary interrogation, Sunil disclosed that he had joined KNF (Z) in July 2003 through one Boicha of Nongda S/S Army Chief of KCP while the other arrested youth revealed that he had joined the KNF (Z) in July 2004 through one Naoba of Loitang Khunou.

One country made carbine with magazine, four live rounds of 9 mm ammunition were recovered from the possession of S Robinson.

In another incident, a fierce encounter between the personnel of 37th Assam Rifles and well armed militants took place near Lokchao on the NH 39 this afternoon at around 3.30.
