Imphal, April 09 2011: In continued campaign for resolution of the Manipur-India armed conflict, yet another public meeting held at Ngairangbam UJB School today has endorsed participation of the people of Manipur in resolving the conflict.

Organised under the aegis of North Imphal Meira Paibi Apunba Nupi Lup (NIMPAL), the public meeting further endorsed that plebiscite should be conducted to ensure full participation of the people in resolving the conflict.

The public meeting also decided that the resolutions adopted would be forwarded to United Nations and other International human rights groups for support in this regard.

The public meeting proceeded with general secretary of All Manipur Women Social Reformation and Development Samaj Thokchom Ramani, NIMPAL advisors K Guni and Thongbam Leima and vice president of the Lup Naorem Tombi as presidium members.

Among the resource persons who addressed the meeting, UCM general secretary Second categorically stated that the protracted peace talks being carried out between the Government of India and Naga rebel group, NSCN (IM) is not for restoration of peace.

Inspite of the peace talks, violence continued to erupt and nothing definite could be said what the future of NSCN (IM) after the peace talks.

The protracted peace talks is only in favour of Government of India.

Along with taking time, NSCN (IM) has been taken far from its original objectives and it is now being made a pawn in the hands of Government of India.

So, in order to bring about an immediate and lasting solution to the ongoing conflict between Manipur and India, there is no other effective means than holding plebiscite, which is accepted Internationally, he said.

With regard to public apprehension on how a State which has no product and resource of its own is going to stand by itself, the UCM general secretary reminded the gathering that Manipur was once a self sufficient State and its people hard working.

However, after Manipur was declared as a part of India, people have forgotten their work culture and become dependent on other for everything.

It is these very same people who have suffered the most in the ongoing conflict and their suffering is bound to increase until resolution of the conflict, he added.

Another resource person, T Shamu observed that when there is race for development and people all around the globe are today concerned about giving the best education to the children, people in Manipur are living with uncertainty.

Caught in the conflict, they are suffering the impact both from the side of the security forces and the armed insurgents.
