Jiri violence condemned, immediate attention sought for resolution

JIRIBAM, Jun 8: The Rongmei Naga Council Manipur (RNCM), Jiribam Luangrian strongly condemned the brutal murder of Soibam Saratkumar, a resident of Gularthol, Jiribam on June 6 near Mulargaon and abduction of L Thianmuang, a resident of Vengnuam Dibong Khunou, Jiribam by unknown miscreants.
It is observed that the repercussion of these incidents led to the burning down of various Kuki houses of Jiribam in the night of June 6 and subsequent incident at Lamtaikhunou, Borobekra where Meetei/Meitei houses were burnt down and attacked, said a press note by the Information and Publicity, RNCM, Jiribam Luangrian.
In view of the above alarming incidents, the RNCM, Jiribam Luangrian appealed to both the communities to not escalate the issue further and work out amicable resolutions for the welfare of the citizens of Jiribam.
Stating that Rongmei Naga people living in Jiribam is a peace loving community residing for many decades having cordial relationship and co-existed with various communities, the council expressed dismay to witness the unwanted eventuality between two communities in Jiribam for the first time.
All these incidents occurring in Jiribam recently is an unhealthy sign to damage the long cherish peaceful environment of Jiribam, it remarked.
Further the Rongmei Naga people reiterated its stand to maintain: peace in the region.
In a separate press release, Salaai Kanba Lup Headquarters Thoubal, strongly condemned the brutal killing of Soibam Saratkumar and the arson of houses at meitei villages by Kuki terrorists in Jiribam.
Raising serious concern on the unwanted incidents of violence in the peaceful district of Jiribam, Salaai Kanba Lup urged the authorities concerned and the law enforcing agencies to take up immediate measures to bring the situation under control so as to safeguard the lives and properties of Meetei/Meitei in Jiribam.
Salaai Kanba Lup demanded stringent legal actions against the Kuki terrorists and sought the attention of relevant authorities to look into the issue where wrong and misleading news are being, circulated in social media, national and international media in connection with the violence in Jiribam.
