Imphal, July 07 2026: A newborn baby, approximately one month old, was found abandoned at the gate of the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Imphal East, on June 28, 2026, at around 12.30 pm .

In a statement, Hindangmayum Eliza, Protection Officer (NIC), DCPU Imphal East, said the baby was rescued and later produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Imphal East, following which a case was registered.

She said the CWC directed that the baby be placed at the Specialised Adoption Agency (SAA), Imphal East, located at Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal.

The child has been named Tomthin Nganba by the DCPU, CWC and SAA .

Eliza informed that any person who can provide the identity of the baby may claim the child from the office of SAA, Imphal East, or contact SAA at 9856863953, DCPU at 7085247502, CWC at 8787564077, or Child Helpline at 1098 within 60 days.

She added that if no one claims the child within the stipulated period, further proceedings will be initiated to declare the baby legally free for adoption under the Adoption Regulations, 2022 .
