"Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat" campaign launched in Kakching

The District Administration Kakching in association with the District Child Protection Unit, Kakching launched "Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat" (Child Marriage Free Nation) Awareness Campaign for Kakching district on Tuesday.
The campaign was launched by P Shantikumar, Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Kakching at NIC Conference Hall, DC Complex, Kakching.
Speaking on the occasion, P Shantikumar, ADM Kakching, stated that preventing child marriage has been a challenge due to a lack of proper understanding about the unlawful practices among the general public.
He further emphasised on the importance of raising awareness on child rights and the collective responsibility of society in safeguarding children from early and forced marriages.
Stressing on the importance of understanding why child marriage is prohibited, he urged everyone to recognize that laws are implemented for the welfare of the people.
He also appealed to all to act in accordance as per the law.
M Robindro, Legal cum Probation Officer of District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Kakching attended the function as a resource person and spoke on the topic "The Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006", under which marriages involving girls under 18 and boys under 21 are strictly prohibited along with severe penalties for violators.
The function was also attended by Gajoo Rajkumari, District Child Protection Officer of DCPU, Kakching, DLOs of Child Marriage Prohibition Officers (CMPOs) of Kakching district among others.
Posters were also distributed as a part of the inaugural programme.
