CFD celebrates 71st Wildlife Week with cyclothon

Imphal, October 06 2025: As part of the ongoing 71st Wildlife Week Celebration, the Central Forest Division, Forest Department, Government of Manipur, organised "Pedal for the Planet, Protect the Wildlife" - a cyclothon today.

The event was conceptualised and conducted under the overarching theme of "Human-Animal Coexistence," symbolising the shared relationship between people and nature, and highlighting the importance of wildlife protection and sustainable lifestyles.

Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Additional Chief Secretary (TCl/Trans-port), Anurag Bajpai flagged off the cyclothon at Forest Office Complex, Mantripukhri.

The cycle rally concluded at the Manipur Zoological Garden, Iroishemba, traversing through key city landmarks including Mantripukhri Road, BOC, Hatta Minuthong, Palace Gate, Governor House, Kangla Gate, and BT Flyover before reaching its destination.

The rally aimed at spreading the message of environmental consciousness, ecological balance, and harmonious coexistence with wildlife drew the participation of more than 150 cyclists from various organisations and clubs including the Manipur Adventure and Mountain Biking Association (MAAMBA), Manipur Royal Humber Cycling Club, and Cycle Squad.

At the event, Anurag Bajpai lauded the efforts of the Central Forest Division for the initiative and emphasised that wildlife conservation is not merely the responsibility of forest officials but a collective duty of every citizen.

Sensitising youth through such initiatives is crucial to shaping a sustainable future, he said.

The event culminated with renewed pledges to conserve nature, protect wildlife habitats, and continue the legacy of responsible environmental stewardship in the State.

L Joykumar Singh, Chief Conservator of Forests (T-1/Wildlife/APM), RK Amarjit, Conservator of Forests, Central Circle and many other officials of the Forest Department attended the event.
