Govt eyes setting up State Dialysis Centre

A meeting chaired by Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh has discussed the proposal to set up a State Dialysis Centre under the Health Department.
According to reports, the Government plans to establish the centre at the TB Hospital at Keirao Wangkhem under the funding of the Central Government.
The discussion was held during a review meeting on projects being taken up at Churachandpur Medical College and JNIMS, held at the Chief Minister's Secretariat.
Well-placed sources said the proposal for a separate dialysis centre was taken up given the inconvenience faced by kidney patients in receiving treatment at RIMS and JNIMS hospitals.
Reportedly, the meeting agreed to set up the proposed centre at the TB Hospital at Keirao Wangkhem.
Sources said the centre will have 60 dialysis machines while another 40 machines will be installed at different hospitals across the State.
It is also reported that the centre will be under the control of JNIMS.
The meeting observed that the establishment of the centre would help ease the difficulties faced by kidney patients to some extent.
Meanwhile, the meeting also discussed the recruitment of teaching and non-t eaching staff for Churachandpur Medical College (CMC).
Among other matters, it deliberated on the procurement of an MRI machine for CMC, the opening of the OPD block at the Imphal campus of CMC, and the improvement of CMC's infrastructure.
The meeting was attended by Health Commissioner cum Secretary Sumant Singh, JNIMS Director Somoijit Salam, CMC Director Gangmei Angam and other health officials.
