Imphal, October 05 2026:
The Manipur Drivers' Association (MDA) has urged the Government to repair the Kedima-Tadubi bypass road along National Highway-2 .
Addressing the media at Kwakeithel today, MDA assistant secretary Khundongbam Sangitcharan said the MDA and other transporter bodies repaired the Kedima-Tadubi route with contributions from their members and using their own machinery due to frequent landslides at Phedima in Nagaland.
He said the condition of the bypass road, however, has deteriorated, causing difficulties for transporters and commuters using the route.
Saying that the bypass road is around 27 km long, with approximately 9 km falling within Manipur, he added that the portion of the road on the Manipur side has deteriorated considerably.
He also said that the bypass road is the only alternative route to reach Kohima in the event of any calamity at Phesama.
Sangitcharan said the MDA and other transporter bodies, including the Ko-hima District Truck Owners and Drivers Union, Senapati District Truck Owners Association and Senapati District Truck Drivers Union, along with other stakeholders, submitted a memorandum to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on July 4 last year to repair the bypass road.
Saying that the two MPs of Manipur also submitted a similar memorandum on July 30 last year, he claimed that no adequate response has been received so far.
He said the MDA and other transporters are preparing to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister regarding the issue.
MDA would approach the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways in New Delhi if the State Government fails to take steps to repair the road, he said.
