Major start-up conclave lined up

Imphal, August 05 2026: The State Government is planning to organise a major start-up conclave in Imphal during the last week of August or the first week of September, Special Secretary (Planning) Neilenthang Telien said today.

He made the announcement while inaugurating a seven-day Entrepreneurship Development Programme organised by the Planning Department at Babupara.

The programme was organised for 730 candidates shortlisted under the Chief Minister's Entrepreneurship Support Scheme as part of Start-up Manipur 2.0 .

Addressing the function, which was attended by entrepreneurs from different parts of the State, Neilenthang said that Manipur has immense potential for fisheries.

The programme would play a key role in boosting fish production in the State by providing financial support to fish farmers, he added.

He appealed to aspiring entrepreneurs to participate in Start-up training programmes and work diligently to achieve success, assuring them that the Government would extend all possible assistance.

Reiterating that the Government is working to organise a major Start-up conclave in Imphal during the last week of August or the first week of September, Neilenthang said consistent effort and perseverance are essential for success in business.

Saying that the Act East Policy presents a significant opportunity for Manipur, he appealed to entrepreneurs across the State to strive for success and contribute to the State's economic growth and development.

Planning Director RK Radhesana said that experts from banks and various other sectors would share valuable insights on entrepreneurship during the programme.

He said the training would also address the common challenges faced by aspiring entrepreneurs while starting a business.

Radhesana said the Government aims to train 5,000 educated unemployed youths under the Chief Minister's Entrepreneurship Support Scheme.

So far, 3,144 youths have either completed the training or have been selected to undergo it, he added.

Assistant General Manager (AGM) of the State Bank of India (SBI) Irengbam Priyokumar and AGM of the Punjab National Bank (PNB) Upendro Kumar, among others, also attended the programme.

Priyokumar said that 74 SBI branches in the State have been extending financial assistance to entrepreneurs under the Start-up scheme.

He urged aspiring entrepreneurs to work towards becoming job creators.

Upendro Kumar said that PNB is the second-largest public sector bank after SBI.

He added that the bank has 24 branches across the State and has already established a dedicated loan processing branch in Imphal.

He further said that PNB will open new branches at Pallel, Churachandpur and Wangkhei in the near future.
