Imphal, March 05:
The death of one Tokpam Narendra recently in a road mishap on Uripok-Kangchup road was due to the negligence and lapses on the part of the jeep driver involved in the mishap but not because of the incomplete development work of the road, asserted Works Minister K Ranjit.
The Minister was responding to a call attention motion raised by MLA L Nandakumar of Uripok A/C in the State Assembly today.
The MLA contended that the fatal mishap was a result of the existing condition of the Uripok-Kangchup road which lies unfinished with the road only partially black topped.
Even as Sewerage Project taken up along Uripok road has been completed, the road development work remains half done resulting in dust pollution thereby causing health hazards to the public, Nandakumar said.
He also sought as to why the road development work has been suspended.
Responding to the motion, Ranjit informed the House that one contractor Joykishan is being engaged for the development of the Uripok- Kangchup as a four lane road.
The jeep driver involved in the mishap which killed Narendra has been arrested and an FIR lodged against him, the Works Minister said.
Regarding the suspension of the road development on the southern side of the Uripok road, the Minister said that the road work has been deliberately suspended to let the earth which was dug up for the Sewerage Project stabilise to a certain depth.
Nevertheless, the Works Minister assured that the development work of the Uripok-Kangchup road will be completed by June this year.
