Meitei Heritage Society condemns attack on DC, SP offices in Kangpokpi by Kuki militants

Imphal, January 04 2025: The Meitei Heritage Society has strongly condemned the heinous attack on the offices of the Superintendent of Police (SP) and Deputy Commissioner (DC) in Kangpokpi district, carried out by armed Kuki militants and their accomplices.

In a release, the Meitei Heritage Society said that the assault, which left SP Manoj Prabhakar injured, is a direct and blatant challenge to the rule of law.

The Meitei Heritage Society asserted that this latest act of aggression is a disturbing part of a deliberate and orchestrated ongoing effort by Kuki militant groups to destabilize Manipur and advance their publicly declared separatist agenda to carve out their imaginary sovereign country 'Kukiland' by breaking Manipur and India.

"It is imperative to recognize that this is not an isolated incident.

Last year, the DC office in Churachandpur was burnt down in a similar manner.

The Kuki Mjlitants with the backing of Myanmar based Kuki militants also unleashed a brutal attack on Manipur Police Station in Moreh town", it added.

"What is most disturbing in the Kangpokpi attack is the open presence of heavily armed militants, allegedly belonging to Kuki National Front (KNF) .

This act is part of the several actions of these Militants of openly violating the ground rules of the Suspension of Operations", said the Meitei Heritage Society.

Stating that these acts of insurgency and lawlessness must be met with the swift and most decisive action by both the Central and State Forces, the Meitei Heritage Society demanded an immediate and forceful military response to dismantle these militant networks and send a clear message that secessionist Kuki violence will no longer be tolerated.

The Meitei Heritage Society also highlighted that at least 2 Kuki Militants with AK 47s, whose video also went viral, were part of the Kuki miscreants that burnt the houses of Meitei Villages in Torbung on the fateful day of May 3, 2023 which triggered the 19-months old violence.

"We are extremely alarmed that these Kuki Militants continue to create havoc in our State with impunity.

Past failures to take swift action has emboldened these insurgent groups and further erode the authority of the State.

The continued inaction of Government agencies also perpetuates concerns among indigenous communities of Manipur and Indian citizens alike that for geopolitical compulsions, the interest of Manipur and India has been compromised", it added.

Furthermore, the Meitei Heritage Society urged the Central and State Governments to launch immediate military operations against Kuki Militants and insurgent bases; strengthen security measures to prevent further assaults on Government institutions and law enforcement agencies; ensure the restoration of law and order in all affected districts of Manipur; and immediately suspend the SOO agreements with the separatists Kuki militants.
