Ukhrul, September 03 2024:
The Wungya Long, Ukhrul has strongly condemned the indiscriminate firing in the night of September 1, allegedly targeting Tangkhul Naga villagers at New Canaan, Wunghon, Leiyaram and Mayophung villages, reports our correspondent.
In a statement, the Wungya Long chairman Mahaiwung Raihing and secretary Thotreingam Rephung described the attack as an unprovoked action of putting 'our lives' in danger, time and again and is a serious cause of worry which could affect the discourse of the Tangkhul Naga community maintaining neutrality in the ongoing conflict.
The incident of indiscriminate firing between the Meiteis and Kukis on Sunday night caused immense stress and worry to the innocent women and children living in the villages.
Maintaining that such an act was devoid of all norms and respect for the Tangkhul Naga villages in the surrounding areas of Yaingangpokpi, Wungya Long condemned the atrocious and 'mindless' behaviour of the two warring parties which disturbed peace in the area.
The association frequently appealed to both the communities to leave them out of the conflict and to respect the neutrality the Tangkhul Nagas have been maintaining, it said and cautioned that not heeding their prayer will only bring only great loss and misery.
The Wungya Long then called for immediate intervention of the State Government and the State and the Central forces to make sure 'such a senseless act' does not repeat in the area again.
