Imphal, October 02 2010:
Troops of 11 Assam Rifles on September 30 provided food to drivers of civil trucks stranded between Kambiron and Nungba on NH-53, along which transporters have opted to ferry essential supplies instead of NH-39 .
An Assam Rifles statement conveyed that inspite of NH-53 being gradually transformed as the main lifeline of the State, drivers still endure severe inconveniences along the Imphal-Jiribam section of the highway as the road is in deplorable conditions due to continuous rainfall.

With more than a week's time consumed in covering the distance and situation further complicated owing to absence of proper fooding facility, with the exception of Nungba, Keimai, Khongsang and Noney areas, truck drivers are the worst affected for they have to remain where their vehicles get stuck, the statement maintained.
Keeping in view plight of these drivers the 11 Assam Rifles provided food to more than 200 vehicle operators stranded at Kambiron area, it informed while adding that such an effort will enthuse a feeling of security and develop faith in security forces.
