Alternate routes proposed

The State Government has identified two alternate routes to connect Imphal and Dimapur, capable of handling traffic for vehicles up to 3-axle load (25 MT), in view of the recent landslide at Phesama, Nagaland and the same has been proposed to the Nagaland Government.
According to the Principal Secretary (Works), the proposed routes are Dimapur-Jharapani-Jalukie-Peren-Maram-Imphal (293 km) and Dimapur-Kohima-Chakabama-Jessami-Ukhrul-Imphal (372 km) .
The Government of Manipur has communicated with the Nagaland Government suggesting the alternate routes for heavy vehicles, it said.
It also said that traffic diversions for light motor vehicles are already operational to maintain connectivity between Nagaland and Manipur with the routes being Dimapur-Kohima-Phesama-Kisama-Jakhama-Mao-Maram-Imphal (193 km) for light motor vehicles and Dimapur-Kohima-Chakabama-Kidima-Mao-Maram-Imphal (207 km) for traffic up to 2-axle load.
Saying that NHIDCL is in the process of restoring the Kohima-Mao road subject to land availability by Kohima district administration, it continued that the affected land has been made available to NHIDCL by the Nagaland Government but restoring the route may take some time to complete given the quantum of the work.
Out of the 28 Km stretch between Mao-Kidima-Chakhabama, nine Km is within Manipur and the portion of the route is under maintenance by the PWD, Manipur, it added.
