Imphal, Senapati 01 2025:
Amid an ongoing measles outbreak, the Senapati District Administration convened a multi-stakeholder meeting-cum-awareness programme at DRDA Conference Hall, Senapati today to develop a coordinated response.
The goal of the meeting was to control the spread of infection and address vaccine hesitancy, which has contributed significantly to the current situation.
It brought together key partners from the Health Department, ICDS, Schools, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), churches, and religious leaders to strategize and act swiftly.
In response to the measles outbreak in Senapati, the stakeholders will work together in the following areas:
Health Department: Investigation, treatment, Vitamin A, and mass vaccination for children between 9 months to 5 years.
Schools & ICDS: Surveillance, reporting, mobilization, and awareness.
Religious leaders & CSOs: Promoting vaccination, debunking myths, and supporting families.
According to the Current Outbreak Status as of July 31, 54 suspected cases were reported (June-July) with 11 confirmed, 6 tested negative and 18 pending results.
Three clusters have been identified at Council River Colony, Phyamai Vabuh, TNK Gate, Yapao Colony, DV School area and road to Emesiiphro, Mt Everest area.
Alarmingly, 10 of the 11 confirmed cases had not received a single dose of the measles vaccine.
A rapid survey of these areas revealed large gaps in immunization.
In the Mt Everest area, 28% of the children were not vaccinated while 57% were partially vaccinated.
Other areas like Yapao Colony and Old Monday Market also reported high percentages of children missing full immunization.
The Senapati District Administration has urged all stakeholders and citizens to stand united, promote vaccination, and prevent further loss.
"This is a shared responsibility.
Let us act now to protect our children and prevent future outbreaks," it added.
