Imphal, July 01:
The Incident of thrashing many people including three sisters at Phoubakchao under Mayang Imphal Police Station when the personnel of 22 Maratha Light Infantry came to arrest two persons in the evening of June 27 is not likely to die down.
Protesting against the action of the security forces, infuriated local people have decided to take out a torch rally on the night of July 4 demanding action against the security personnel involved in the incident, removal of the post of 22 Maratha Light Infantry from Mayang Imphal immediately and unconditional release of the two arrested persons.
A decision to this effect was arrived at among others during a public meeting convened by the JAC formed in connection with the incident at the local Madrassa of Phoubakchao Mayai Leikai today.
Apart endorsing the demand for removal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur, the meeting strongly condemned the atrocities committed by the personnel of 22 Maratha Light Infantry on the innocent people of the area.
The meeting has also decided to launch an intense agitation along with the support of various social organisations in the State if the State Government fails to fulfil the demands of the JAC within the deadline of July 5 set in the memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister in this regard earlier.
