Imphal, June 01:
Taking strong exception to the alleged act of intimidation perpetrated by police commandos against family members of Pheiroijam Nando Luwang, advisor to the Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF), Nando has decried the alleged excess of the commandos.
The police commandos reportedly came to the Samurou Bazar residence of Nando and threatened his family members besides accusing Nando of possessing arms.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here today, the MSF advisor said that even if police suspects that he was involved in unlawful activities, they should have summoned.
There is no reason why he should not obey the summon, Nando said.
According to family members, some persons who identified themselves as police commandos came to the home of Nando yesterday morning and asked for Nando.
They also accused Nando of possessing gun.
After raiding the house, they also took a photograph of Nando.
This morning too, some commando personnel and Hindi speaking security personnel barged through the residential gate of Nando and questioned as to why Nando was not sleeping in the house.
They also threatened the family members to bring Nando to police station by 11 am today.
Besides frightening his family members, such alleged excess activities of the commando personnel have also affected his reputation in the locality, Nando decried.
Asking under what evidence the commando personnel were coming to arrest him, Nando volunteered that security forces may arrest him after producing concrete evidence, if they must.
Such activities of security personnel which defy legal procedure are largely responsible for the insecure situation being endured by common people, he observed.
Before occupying the post of MSF advisor since 2004, Nando was MSF president in 2001-02 .
Maintaining that he would continue to move freely, Nando appealed to all concerned to undertake such activities related with life and death after giving a serious thought as it severely disturbs peace of mind.
