Committee formed to shield RTI petitioners

Imphal, July 30 2011: To stop harassment of Right To Information (RTI) petitioners, a committee christened 'Transparency Initiative, Manipur (TIM) has been formed.

Announcing this during a press conference at the office of CORE, Babupara here today, convenor of the newly formed committee W Joykumar informed that TIM was formed during a joint meeting of 30 RTI activists at the office of YVO, Wangkhei Maning Leikai on July 17 .

The main objective of TIM is to prevent harassment on RTI petitioners, he said, adding that the meeting elected an 11-member executive body of TIM with Dr Debabrata Roy Laiphungbam as the chairperson, Ramhauleng as vice chairman, W Joykumar as convenor, Kh Bobby as co-convenor, A Keshorjit as treasurer and six other executive members.

Joykumar further informed that during the course of the meeting, it was also decided to organise a State level convention on 'People's Right to Information' on August 6 at Manipur Press Club starting from 11 am onwards.

In the convention, a constitution of TIM would also be finalised with the suggestion of the people.

Conveying to all concerned desirious of participating in the forthcoming convention to intimate TIM through mobile phone nos, 985691058, 9774578304 and 8794700888, he also informed that membership fee is Rs 200 while the registration fee for participation in the convention would be Rs 50 .
