Joint Action Committee Against Firing Incident at Longrang (Nungnang) has deplored the unfortunate incident of violence over implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) at Longrang (Nungnang) village in Nungba SubDivision of Tamenglong district on August 20.According to a statement jointed issued by its chairman Ph Chongda and secretary R Lungkeilak, the khullakpa cum chairman of the village KP Khangkilung shot at R Lungaibon s/o Gangni of the same village with SBBL Gun belonging to KP Meirijin apart from injuring three other persons.
R Lungaibon is presently undergoing treatment at RIMS Hospital.
The joint statement further informed that Ph Adipou, who was brutally assaulted by KP Pousinglung s/o KP Khangkilung and Ph Kadimiang s/o Ph Gainichang, is also undergoing treatment at RIMS Hospital with serious head injury.
The incident occurred when a large number of villagers went to the residence of KP Khangkilung to demand an explanation in connection with payment of only Rs 2 lakh out of Rs 4,22,671 drawn by KP Khangkilung and his parties from SDO Nungba on July 20 last in connection with the implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, the joint statement said.
The joint statement further drew the attention of the higher authority concerned to look into the matter so as to find out the culprits and take up appropriate action against them in accordance to the law of the land and to restore normalcy in the village.
