Foundation day of UPF held

The 27th foundation day of United Peoples' Front (UPF) Manipur was observed today at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound in Imphal East.
The ceremony witnessed the attendance of Nongthombam Rupachandra, president, UPF; Birendra Chingakham.
vice-president, NIPCO; KC Romeo, president, MAPI Council; YK Dhiren, president, UCM; K Thoiba Meetei, president, AMPFA and H Priyokumar, president, CADA as presidium members.
K Sethajit, former HoD of Political Science Department, Imphal College spoke on the subject of "Dignified existence and idea of Manipur" as the resource person of the event.
Addressing the gathering, Nongthombam Rupachandra said that the Front has completed 27 years of its existence since its inception on August 28, 1998.Under the Front's motto of "Dignified Existence", UPF has consistently visited different hill areas in the State to strengthen the bonds between the hills and valley.
The influx of illegal immigrants seeking to disintegrate Manipur has brought many hardships to the people of the State.
As thousands driven from their homes continue to suffer in relief camps, he urged the Central Government to take prompt steps to ensure their safe return home.
He questioned if the demand for separate administration has already been granted as the Centre's order regarding free movement on the National Highways has failed to materialise on the ground.
To allay the public's doubt, he requested free movement to be allowed in these routes.
Additionally, he strongly condemned the recent report published by the People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) saying that it attempts to depict the Meitei community in an unfair light.
