Imphal, July 27 2024:
The Singjamei to Lilong Meira Paibee Apunba Lup (SLIMPAL) has urged all the legislators of the ruling and the Opposition parties to adopt a resolution to replace Assam Rifles with another force in the upcoming Assembly session.
Addressing a press briefing at Manipur Press Club today, SLIMPAL general secretary Shantibala Khai-dem said that many innocent Meeteis have been killed amid the unrest in Manipur while thousands of people from Churachandpur, Mo-reh and Torbung are still languishing in relief camps after their houses were torched and flattened by Kuki militants and their associates.
Saying that Kuki militants regularly attack Meetei villages right under the nose of Assam Rifles, she added that the paramilitary force has also failed to check the intrusion of illegal immigrants from Myanmar into Kamjong.
The otherwise peaceful Jiribam has lately become a soft target of Kuki militants, she said and added that many Meetei houses in Jiri-bam have also been razed to the ground.
Appealing to all the MLAs of the ruling and the Opposition parties to understand the sentiment of the people and take a resolution to withdraw Assam Rifles in the upcoming Assembly session, she demanded that another force which can work in a neutral manner should be sent to Manipur in place of Assam Rifles.
