Imphal, May 26 2026:
Sit-in protests were staged at different places today, demanding the unconditional release of the six Naga men abducted by Kuki groups.
Zeliangrong Film Forum Manipur (ZFFM) organised a protest demonstration at New Checkon Tribal Market.
Speaking to the media, ZFFM president Joshua Dangmei accused the Government of not putting any tangible effort to secure the release of the hostages.
It is still not known whether the six Naga men abducted by Kuki groups on May 13 are alive or dead, he said, questioning why the Government has remained silent despite civilians being targeted time and again.
He said that they will launch a more intense form of protest if the Government continues to sideline their demand.
A similar protest was also held at Kongba Nandeibam Leikai, during which Kshetrimayum Romesh, a core committee member of COCOMI, alleged that the ongoing crisis in Manipur is orchestrated by the Government of India (GoI) .
It has become clear that the GoI has been waging a 'proxy war' in Manipur, as the crisis that could have been resolved within five to ten days has been allowed to persist for over three years, he claimed.
Calling for unity among the people of Manipur, he urged all concerned to refrain from imposing bandhs or blockades and instead extend support to the democratic protests being carried out by COCOMI .
Mutum Sujata, a local meira paibi leader, questioned when the Government will pay serious attention to the crisis in Manipur.
She also said that there appeared to be no visible effort on the part of the Government to rescue the abducted men.
Urging the Government to clarify whether it intended to allow the annihilation of indigenous communities, she called on all elected representatives to step down on moral grounds if they are unable to protect the people.
