Sit-in condemns Mahar Regiment action

Kakching, May 26 2025: Several civil society organisations of Kakching district jointly organised a sit-in protest at Kakching Keithel on Monday, condemning the recent actions of personnel of Mahar Regiment.

The protest was in response to an incident in which security forces forced concealment of the word "Manipur" from a Manipur State Transport (MST) bus carrying media personnel en route to Ukhrul district to cover the Shirui Lily Festival 2025 .

The protest was jointly organised by All Kakching Clubs' Co-Ordinating Committee (AKCCOC), Joint Non-Government Voluntary Organisation (JNGVO), Kakching Apunba Nupi Lup, Kakching Keithel Apunba Ima Lup, Kakching Bazar Business Welfare Association, and Volunteers' Co-Ordinating Committee, Kakching.

Demonstrators held placards bearing slogans such as "India should stop trying to destroy the Meeteis", "Governor should tender apology", "President Rule must stop insulting Manipur", "Go back unfit Governor" and "Chief Secretary, Security Advisor and DGP should resign immediately" .

Protesters also raised slogans demanding the immediate resignation of the Governor, chief secretary, security advisor and DGP, and apology by the Governor to the people of Manipur.
