Medical bodies condemn unethical conduct towards doctor

The Indian Medical Association South East Manipur Branch (IMASEM) and Poumai Doctors Association (PDA) have strongly condemned the unprofessional treatment meted out to Dr Larung Mezonah Maring by a group of Manipur police officers at Konung Mamang at around 9:00 pm on May 24 .
Notably, Dr Larung Mejonah Maring is a Medical Officer serving in Manipur Health Services at Moreh Hospital.
A statement issued by IMASEM shared that a special emergency meeting was convened at Jivan Hospital today to discuss the unfortunate incident.
IMASEM has appealed the concerned authority of the Police Department to award exemplary punishment to the culprits involved in the incident.
Meanwhile, PDA in a release, has asserted that the actions of the police officers are deeply troubling and unacceptable.
"Such conduct not only tarnishes the reputation of a dedicated medical professional but also undermines the trust and faith of the public in our law enforcement institutions", it added.
PDA has urgently called upon the relevant authorities to take immediate and decisive action against the implicated police personnel adding that they must be held accountable under the appropriate legal provisions and suspended from duty to ensure justice is served and to forestall any recurrence of such incidents in the future.
PDA stated that it stands firmly in solidarity with Dr Larung Mejonah and all medical professionals who selflessly serve the people of Manipur.
