Imphal, March 26 2022:
The Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup (MEELAL), Kangleipak has reacted sharply to non-inclusion of Manipuri language in the public notice for Common University Entrance Test (CUET) issued by University Grants Commission (UGC) on March 21 .
In a statement, MEELAL stated that the move is literally astounding as Manipuri language is included in the eighth schedule of the Indian Constitution.
Saying that the stoic silence maintained by Vice Chancellors (VCs) and Registrars of different Univer- sities in Manipur over the matter is disappointing and it is akin to undermining the language, MEELAL continued that the authorities concerned wait for people's response whenever such scenarios arise.
Reminding that a course on Manipuri language is being included up to post graduate level but absence of the language in the CUET for admission to universities is very disappointing, MEELAL asked if the authorities concerned have been scheming to abolish 'our language' .
MEELAL then cautioned to ban CUET in Manipur if the 'lapse' is not rectified to save the career of numerous students.
