Cops ambushed on Imphal-Ukhrul road

Ukhrul, April 25 2026: A police team led by Inspector Chuingam Ningshen, Officer-in-Charge of Chingai police station, was ambushed yesterday evening while traveling towards Ukhrul, somewhere between TM Kasom and Leingangching.

The ambush occurred in the same area where, on April 18, 2026, two Naga civilians were killed in an attack carried out by Kuki militants near TM Kasom.

According to sources, the gun attack occurred around 5.45 pm when the Chingai police team was traveling in a DI Yodha truck.

Unknown assailants, believed to be militants, fired from the hillside of Mong-kot Chepu using sophisticated automatic rifles.

While no casualties have been reported, the Yodha truck carrying the police personnel was struck by bullets.

One bullet hit the lower portion of the right front door, while another shattered the right rear side window glass.
