Imphal, February 25 2025:
In an exemplary display of community spirit, a group of Manipuris has established a guest house called Kanglei San-Gai in Dubai, which offers free accommodation to job seekers from Manipur.
Speaking to the media in this regard at Koubru Hall of Manipur Press Club today, convenor of Kanglei San-Gai, Ajman, United Arab Emirates (UAE) Jotin Thokchom said that any job seeker from the State can stay at the guest house until their employment.
He said that they will also provide training on UAE rules and regulations, as well as interview preparation, to help Manipuris secure jobs in Dubai.
Saying that the guest house is opened to protect Manipuris from falling prey to scams or exorbitant agency fees while seeking employment in Dubai, Jotin maintained that they, however, don't have the capacity to guarantee employment.
Clarifying that their primary focus is on offering a safe and welcoming space for Manipuris to stay while they search for jobs in Dubai, he added that they, nonetheless, have helped 14 men and 6 women secure different jobs in Dubai.
Jotin, meanwhile, said that remittance flows to India from its migrant workers from UAE alone stood at around Rs 97,000 crore on average annually.
Establishing another Government-run guest house in Dubai could greatly benefit Manipur's economy, he said and added that the State can expect a significant increase in remittances (around Rs 150 to 200 crore) if over 1000 Manipuris get employed in Dubai annually.
He also said that they will extend maximum assistance if any entrepreneur from Manipur wants to start a business in Dubai.
Continuing that they have witnessed tourists from Manipur being taken advantage of by agencies charging exorbitant fees, Jotin said that they can help tourists navigate the challenges of travelling to a foreign country and avoid falling prey to scams or exorbitant agency fees.
Tourists can even explore opportunities to make money during their trip to Dubai with some planning and research, he said while appealing to all Manipuris to obtain passports to open doors to global employment opportunities.
He further appealed to the people to foster love and appreciation for their motherland and live a good life.
Saying that they have also partnered with the Horticulture Department to open an organic vegetable outlet in Dubai, Jotin added that they are working to collaborate with the Assam Government to establish a direct flight from Guwahati to Dubai at least once a week.
He appealed to the people to contact them at 9612850144 and 9089153368 to avail the benefits.
