KNA (B) insurgents gun down 4 in Kamjong

Imphal, September 24 2026: At least four Naga civilians have been killed by suspected KNA-B insurgents near the Indo-Myanmar border region in Kamjong district, said reliable sources.

While two of them were killed at the Pilong village, two were allegedly abducted and taken to Phailen Kuki village and killed later.

Efforts are on to rescue a person who is believed to have escaped captivity, added the sources.

The incident occured today between 2-3 pm.

The place of incident is said to be located between border pillar number 91 and 93, and around 35-kilometres from the Kamjong district headquarters.

The four deceased have been identified as Phami Jajo, Betterson Jajo, Varei-shim Jajo, all of Kangpat Khullen, and one Ningthem Zingsui.

Notably, the Kuki National Army-Burma (KNA- B) is a Myanmar-based insurgent organisa- tion, fighting against the country's military to overthrow the Government there.

The group is also known to have infiltrated into the Indian side in the past and attack villages in Kamjong district.

The villages of Namlee, Z Choro and Wanglee in Kamjong district were attacked by a group including cadres of KNA-B and PDF (People's Defence Force) on May 7, 2026.Several houses, vehicles and civilian properties were burnt and a woman was abducted by the insurgents.

The woman was later released and rescued by the Assam Rifles, which has a camp in the region.

The killings at Kamjong this afternoon came amid the rising tension between the Kuki and Naga communities and hardly a day after six Naga villages were attacked by suspected Kuki insurgent groups including the KNF(P), KNF(N) and KRA .

The KNF (P) and KRA are parties to the tripartite pact of Suspension of Operations, signed between the umbrella armed Kuki groups KNO and UPF and Govt of India and Government of Manipur.

The KNF (N) is not part of the agreement.

The villages the groups attacked yesterday include Makui Chamriupiu, Langka and Thanamba in Kangpok-pi district, and Kekru Naga (Tazeikaiphun Part-III), Mukti Khullen Part-V and Mukti Kapning-ching in Noney district.

Dozens of houses were burnt by the insurgents in the attacks.

Earlier on September 21, a 17-year-old Naga boy was gunned down by suspected Kuki insurgents in Tamenglong district.
