Imphal, May 24 2024:
Keeping the changing global education system in mind, teachers should focus on a multi-disciplinary mode of education on top of teaching their subjects concerned, asserted Professor Wahengbam Chandbabu Singh, Registrar, Manipur University.
The MU Registrar made the statement during the 19th foundation day cum felicitation of meritorious Class X and XII (2023-2024) students of Mega Manipur School held today at the premises of the school at Yaralpat, Tinsid Road, Imphal East.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, the Professor hailed Mega Manipur School as one of the best schools in the State.
He stressed on the need to introduce a holistic perspective as well as intellectual, mental and physical, emotional, social and spiritual building as components of the educational curriculum.
A National school curriculum framework needs to be developed to create a better academic atmosphere, said the MU Registrar.
Stating that teachers need to focus on adopting a multi-disciplinary mode of education, Professor Chandbabu asserted that students should be taught equestrianism (horse-riding), singing, hiking/hill climbing and various sports on top of their usual subjects.
Additionally, he highlighted the important role of teachers, guardians, civil society organisations and other stakeholders in improving the education system in the State.
Meanwhile, Khogendra Khomdram, president, Editors' Guild, Manipur and Editor of Sangai Express (Manipuri edition) categorically asserted that education, by itself, should automatically be of "quality" and should not be differentiated into "quality education" and others.
Though children's education begins at home, the role of schools in producing well-rounded students is paramount.
Becoming a proficient and successful person is the true mark of receiving proper/quality education, not merely getting high marks, stated the EGM president.
Speaking as the guest of honour, Bijoy Kakchingtabam, president, All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) applauded the contribution of Mega Manipur School in bringing quality education in Manipur.
Aton Lunghar, Principal, Mega Manipur School; Yumnam Rupachandra, secretary, BOG, Mega Manipur Society; RK Khogendrajit, Director, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services, Manipur and Takhellambam Sanajaoba, chairperson, BOG, Mega Manipur Society also graced the event.
Students of the school who secured high marks at the recently declared Class X (CBSE) and Class XII (COHSEM) examinations were felicitated with gifts.
Additionally, students of the school also presented performances of Pung Cholom, Thang-Ta and other cultural programmes on the occasion.
