Governor Ajay Kumar and his wife attended the 56th foundation day celebration of the Manipur State Museum at its premises in Imphal today.
At the event, the Governor released a book titled "Hiyang Hiren of Churachand Maharaja", authored by K Sobita Devi, retired Director of Art & Culture, and inaugurated an exhibition showcasing photographs of Hiyang Hiren and various valuable artifacts including gold and silver ornaments.
The exhibition will be open for public viewing till 4.30 pm of September 24 .
Housing a collection of more than 10,000 artefacts, the Manipur State Museum is one of the best museums in the North East, said Governor Bhalla.
Highlighting the significance of museums as custodians of history and heritage, he emphasised their role as living institutions that connect the past with the present and guide future generations.
The Governor congratulated the Department of Art & Culture and the Manipur State Museum on the occasion and lauded their contributions in preserving the State's cultural heritage.
He inspected the museum's various galleries and planted an Uningthou Nachumbi sapling under Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam at the premises.
Chief Secretary PK Goel, Art & Culture Commissioner H Gyan Prakash, senior officials of the Government, scholars, students and staff of the museum attended the event.
