CPI-MSC celebrates 79th foundation day

Imphal, August 23 2026: The Communist Party of India (CPI) Manipur State Council celebrated its 79th foundation day at Irawat Bhawan, Imphal today.

Many party leaders including Thokchom Yaiskul, Langol Iboyaima, Leishang-them Thoirel and CPI MSC secretary Athokpam Naba-chandra attended the function.

To mark the event, party members paid floral tribute to the statue of Jananeta Hijam Irawat at the office complex.

At the event, CPI-MSC secretary Athokpam Nabachandra recalled that the party had led and was part of many important public movements including the movement for Manipur's Statehood and the movement for inclusion of Manipuri language in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution.

Nabachandra said the party led the movement for Manipur's Statehood, and for it, many members of the party were jailed.

He said two CPI MPs from Tripura first raised the demand to include Manipuri language in the 8th Schedule in the Parliament in 1952 .

He also commented on the present situation in the State and asserted that the Government has failed to restore normalcy even after three years since the conflict broke out on May 3, 2023 .

Reiterating the party's endorsement of the public demand for NRC prior to census and delimitation, Nabachandra called for people to vote for a democratic, secular and progressive Government in the 2027 elections.
