The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West has sent an Advocate to police custody, remanded three accused to judicial custody and granted bail to three other accused in connection with a case involving the use of fake voter identity cards to withdraw compensation amounts from the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal, Manipur.
Accused Advocate Wahidur Rahman (51) of Lilong Awang Leikai; Md Abdul Samad(54) and his younger brother Md Basirur Rahaman 53 of Lilong Haoreibi Tural Ahanbi; Jamila Begum (38) w/o Md Abdul Baker of Keirao Makting Mayai Leikai; Wahengbam Bremjit (31), s/o (L) Lukhoi of Kiyamgei Mamang Leikai (a computer operator), RK Ratan (58) s/o (L) Dolansana of Kakwa Lilando Lampak (owner of RK Printing Press) and Md Rafijuddin (51) s/o Md Shalimuddin Shah of Keirao Makthing Awang Leikai (Proprietor of AD Computer Shop) were produced before the Court on completion of their police custody period with a prayer to send Advocate Wahidur Rahaman to police custody and the remaining six accused to judicial custody by a team of Lamphel police.
According to APP for the State, Advocate Wahidur Rahman is the main culprit of the case.
The defence counsels, on the other hand, filed a remand objection.
The Court after hearing the submission of APP for the State, defence counsel and on perusal of the case record remanded Advocate Wahidur Rahaman to police custody till July 26 and remanded claimants of the compensation from the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal viz Md Abdul Samad, Md Basirur Rahaman and Jamila Begum to judicial custody till August.
The remaining three accused Wahengbam Bremjit, RK Ratan and Md Rafijuddin have been granted bail by the Court.
